The Yankees didn’t leave the office early for Thanksgiving.

They acquired speedy utility man Tim Locastro from the Dodgers in exchange for righty minor-leaguer Drew Finley and cash on Wednesday afternoon, the team said in a statement.

Los Angeles had recently designated Locastro for assignment to clear 40-man roster space.

It put the Yankees’ 40-man roster to its full capacity.

Who’s Locastro? Locastro, 26, was a Blue Jays 13th-round pick out of Ithaca College in 2013. He’s got little big-league experience — he appeared in just 18 games this season for the Dodgers and in three in 2017 — but he’s quick. He stole 20 bases in the minors this season. He stole 34 in 2017 and 41 in 2015. Locastro wasn’t ranked among MLB.com’s top 30 Dodgers prospects. The Yankees listed Locastro as an outfielder, but he’s played 271 career minor-league games at second base. He’s played 130 at shortstop. And he’s played 127 in the outfield. He’s only played the outfield in the majors.

Who’s Finley? The Yankees drafted Finley in the third round in 2015 out of high school. The 22-year-old has battled injuries and never pitched above rookie-level Staten Island. He’s made just 42 appearances and 26 starts. He had a very good curveball coming up.

Why did the Yankees do this? This was a depth move for the Yankees, who will still need to fill out their Triple-A outfield for next year. The Yankees had an extra spot on their 40-man roster and figured they would add talent. They could always cut Locastro later if they need space. Plus, Finley appears to be a long way from helping the Yankees at the major-league level.

Reminder: The Yankees added Triple-A right-hander Joe Harvey to the 40-man roster on Tuesday. They also traded with the Rockies, sending minor-league pitcher Jordan Foley to Colorado for a low-level arm.
