After being drafted by New York in the first round of the 2013 MLB draft, Judge made a splash in his 2016 professional debut with a home run in his first at bat. He won the American League Rookie of the Year award in 2017 by breaking Mark McGwire’s major league rookie record and Joe DiMaggio’s franchise rookie record with 52 home runs. He was also the first rookie to ever win the Home Run Derby. In 2022, Judge won his first career MVP by breaking Roger Maris’ 61-year-old American League and Yankees record with 62 home runs. The Bronx’s newest superstar was subsequently named the 16th captain in club history. Judge also received his second All-MLB First Team selection, fourth All-Star selection, third Silver Slugger award, and the Associated Press’s Male Athlete of the Year award for his historic 2022 season.
