The Yankees drafted Volpe in the first round of the 2019 MLB Draft and after hitting 18 home runs and 60 RBIs with a .252 batting average over 109 games played with the Somerset Patriots, he would be called up by the Yankees to make his major league debut on Opening Day. He would become the team’s youngest player to make his debut since Derek Jeter in 1996, while also being the first position player to start on Opening Day since Hideki Matsui in 2003. He would hit his first home run against the Minnesota Twins on April 14, 2023, and on May 10, 2023, he became the youngest player in franchise history to hit a grand slam in Yankee Stadium.
