Yankees Allow 6 Homers In Ugly 11-4 Loss To Twins

The Yankees didn’t just lose. They got blasted, kicked the ball around, wasted a comeback chance, and watched another game turn into the same ugly movie.

The New York Yankees lost 11-4 to the Minnesota Twins at Yankee Stadium, and honestly, this one had all the ingredients of a team that is playing bad baseball in every possible direction.

Bad starting pitching.
Bad defense.
Missed chances.
A bullpen inning that exploded.
And yes, another game where the other team looked way too comfortable in the Bronx.

The Twins hit six home runs. Six. Josh Bell hit two by himself. Kody Clemens, Luke Keaschall, Alex Jackson, and Trevor Larnach also went deep as Minnesota turned Yankee Stadium into batting practice. The Yankees have now lost eight of their last nine games, and they allowed six homers in a game for the first time since August 15, 2019.

Brendan Beck Got Thrown Into A Fire

Brendan Beck was called up because Carlos Rodón landed on the injured list with left elbow inflammation, and Beck’s first big league start went about as badly as it could go. He gave up five runs, five hits, and three home runs in 3 2/3 innings.

The Twins jumped him right away. A walk, a Byron Buxton double, and then a Kody Clemens homer made it 3-0 before some fans even settled into their seats. Then Keaschall and Jackson went back-to-back in the second, and just like that, the Yankees were down 5-0.

Aaron Boone said Beck relies on elite command and simply made too many mistakes in the strike zone. That is true. But this is also what happens when a team that has leaned on starting pitching all year suddenly has to reach deeper into the depth chart.

There is no pause button on the season. Boone said that himself. But right now, it feels like the Yankees are the ones stuck buffering.

The Yankees Tried To Come Back, Then Did The Yankee Thing

To their credit, the Yankees did show a little fight.

Jasson Domínguez homered in the fourth. Max Schuemann hit a two-run shot in the fifth. Cody Bellinger doubled in a run, and suddenly a 6-0 mess became a 6-4 game. For a few minutes, you could talk yourself into it.

Then came the sixth inning.

The Yankees loaded the bases. Two outs. Big spot. Boone went to Paul Goldschmidt against the lefty, and Goldschmidt flew out to left. Boone said he would take Goldie there because it was a chance to either grab the game or get within two. Fine. But Goldschmidt is now ice cold, and the Yankees went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position.

That is the difference between a comeback and another fake rally.

The Defense Is Becoming A Daily Problem

Then the eighth inning happened, because of course it did.

Jazz Chisholm bobbled a grounder to start the inning. Camilo Doval was not helped by that, but he also did not clean it up. The inning snowballed, Bell crushed another homer, and Minnesota put up four runs.

Ryan McMahon later made a throwing error in the ninth. That gave the Yankees 19 errors over their last 14 games. Nineteen. This is not one bad night anymore. This is a trend, and it is getting ridiculous.

Boone said those are plays they have to make, especially from two of their better defenders. He is right. But Yankees fans are tired of hearing “we have to make that play” after watching them not make that play.

This Is No Longer Just A Slump

The Yankees are 49-39 now. They are not buried. But this is the kind of stretch that exposes what is underneath.

The rotation is hurting. The defense is sloppy. The offense disappears with men on base. The bullpen implodes. And the manager is stuck explaining the same nonsense.

The Yankees do not need a speech right now.

They need clean innings.
They need professional at-bats.
They need somebody to catch the baseball.
And they need to stop playing like every opponent already knows the mistake is coming.
