Aaron Judge is not dealing with a small injury anymore. The Yankees just lost the center of their offense for a real stretch of the season.
The Yankees finally got the answer on Aaron Judge.
This is serious.
Judge has been diagnosed with a stress fracture in the first rib on his right side. That is a long way from “just soreness” or a simple bone bruise. The Yankees still expect him back this season, which is the one piece of good news here, but he is expected to be reimaged in roughly 4-6 weeks before they know what the next step really looks like.
That means this is not a weekend problem. This is not a quick lineup shuffle. This is the Yankees losing their captain, their biggest bat, and their most feared hitter for a real chunk of the schedule.

The issue started getting worse during the Athletics series in Sacramento. Judge had already been dealing with shoulder discomfort, but once it started affecting his swing, the whole situation changed.
At first, the Yankees called it a bone bruise near the upper right rib cage. Then came more imaging, more specialists, and more waiting for “clarity.”
For a hitter like Judge, that is not some small thing. His swing is built on torque, strength, and violence through the baseball. A rib injury in that area can mess with everything.
The Yankees cannot replace him
This is where the Yankees will say the right things. Next man up. Everybody has to contribute. Stay together. All of that.
Fine.
But you do not replace Aaron Judge. You survive him being gone.
Other guys can get more at-bats. The lineup can be moved around. But the Yankees just lost the one player every pitcher plans around. Judge changes games even when he is not locked in.
Without him, the lineup gets lighter, the margin for error gets smaller, and every weakness becomes louder.
The Yankees better not rush this
The uncomfortable part is Judge has dealt with a right rib stress fracture before, back in 2020. This does not mean the injuries are identical, but it absolutely makes this feel worse.
The Yankees are in a competitive AL East race, and the timing is brutal. But rushing Judge back because the lineup looks thin would be a mistake.
Let him heal. Let the imaging tell the truth. Then figure out the timeline.
The season is not over, but it is different now.
