Judge Reaches 30 HRs with Two More Bombs, Stroman Returns in Yankees’ 12–5 Rout of Athletics

Aaron Judge homered twice to reach 30 on the season, Jazz Chisholm Jr. drove in four runs, and Marcus Stroman earned a win in his first start since April, as the New York Yankees defeated the Athletics 12–5 on Sunday afternoon in the Bronx.

The victory gave New York its second series win in nearly three weeks, pushing their record to 48–35. With the bats roaring and Stroman returning to form, the Yankees appeared more cohesive and commanding than they had in weeks, capitalizing on multiple errors and command struggles from the Athletics to take control early and never look back.

Judge Powers His Way Into the History Books—Again

Aaron Judge’s two-home run performance marked his 44th career multi-homer game and extended his season total to 30—making it the sixth season in which he’s reached the 30-HR milestone.

His first blast came in the fourth inning off former Yankees starter Luis Severino, a two-run shot to left that punctuated a dominant inning. The second came in the seventh against reliever Tyler Ferguson, another two-run homer, this time to deep center.

Judge’s production remains the engine of the Yankees’ offense. His homers on Sunday helped increase the Yankees’ lead at pivotal moments, widening the margin after early surges by Chisholm and Bellinger.

Chisholm Jr. Continues Scorching Pace With 4 RBIs

Jazz Chisholm Jr. opened the scoring in the bottom of the second with a solo homer to right—his third in four games—then broke the game wide open in the third with a bases-loaded triple to deep right-center. The hit cleared the bases and put the Yankees up 4–0.

Since returning from a right oblique strain on June 3, Chisholm is hitting .318 with six home runs, 18 RBIs, and four stolen bases. His versatility, power, and speed have transformed the bottom half of the Yankees lineup into a second wave of pressure for opposing pitchers.

During the sixth inning, Chisholm appeared to injure his hand while checking his swing, but remained in the game.

Stroman Returns, Earns First Win Since August 2024

Making his first start since being sidelined by left knee inflammation, Marcus Stroman allowed just three hits over five innings, walking one and striking out one. He gave up one run—a solo home run to Willie MacIver in the fifth—but was otherwise efficient, retiring nine of the first 10 batters he faced.

Stroman had not recorded a win since August 30 of last year, and his presence in the rotation is a welcome boost to a team that has leaned heavily on Carlos Rodón and the bullpen in his absence.

Former Yankee Severino Roughed Up in Return to the Bronx

Luis Severino, a former two-time All-Star with the Yankees, made his first start at Yankee Stadium since signing with the Athletics. It was a rough outing. Severino allowed seven runs (six earned) on five hits, three walks, two hit batters, two home runs, and a wild pitch over 3.2 innings. He was removed after surrendering a two-run homer to Judge in the fourth.

The Athletics’ defense did little to help. Max Muncy lost a routine popup in the sun, Butler and Urías collided on a shallow fly, and Clarke misplayed Chisholm’s triple. MacIver also dropped a foul pop in the sixth.

Cody Bellinger Adds Three-Run Homer

Cody Bellinger delivered a major blow in the fifth inning, crushing a three-run homer to right off reliever Hogan Harris. It followed a single in the first and a double in the fourth, giving him a three-hit day.

Bellinger’s recent production has added stability to the Yankees’ middle order, giving them critical depth behind Judge and Chisholm.

Anthony Volpe Ejected for First Time

Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe was ejected in the eighth inning following a strikeout. It was the first ejection of his career. Prior to that, Volpe had reached base, stolen third, and scored a run in the fifth inning.
