Where Are They Now: Scott Brosius
Scott Brosius, born on August 15, 1966, in Hillsboro, Oregon, is best remembered as the steady, clutch third baseman for the New York Yankees during their late-1990s dynasty. A former Major League Baseball infielder, Brosius played from 1991 through 2001 and became one of the most important role players of his era.
Early Career and Rise to Fame
Brosius began his MLB career with the Oakland Athletics in 1991, famously hitting a home run in his first major league at-bat. He spent six seasons with Oakland, showing flashes of power and solid defense, before his performance dipped late in his tenure.
In 1998, Brosius was traded to the New York Yankees in a move that ultimately defined his career. He delivered a career-best season, batting .300 with 19 home runs and 98 RBIs, earning an All-Star selection and winning the World Series Most Valuable Player Award. His two-home-run performance in Game 3 of the 1998 World Series — including a pivotal blast off Trevor Hoffman — remains one of the most iconic moments of the Yankees’ dynasty run.
World Series Success and Beyond
Brosius played a central role in the Yankees’ three consecutive World Series championships from 1998 to 2000. Known for his reliability and toughness, he won a Gold Glove Award at third base in 1999 and was widely respected for his leadership in the clubhouse. Though the Yankees fell short in the 2001 World Series, Brosius’ impact during his tenure was undeniable.
Life After Baseball
After retiring in 2001, Brosius returned to Linfield University to complete his degree in business administration before beginning a highly successful coaching career. He served as head baseball coach at Linfield, leading the program to multiple NCAA Division III World Series appearances and a national championship in 2013.
Brosius later held coaching and player-development roles with the Seattle Mariners organization and worked in leadership positions with USA Baseball. In May 2024, he was named athletic director at Linfield University, a role he continues to hold as of 2026, overseeing the school’s athletic programs and supporting student-athletes across all sports.
Legacy and Impact
Scott Brosius’ legacy extends far beyond statistics. A World Series MVP, Gold Glove winner, championship coach, and respected athletic administrator, he exemplifies professionalism and dedication to the game. Whether on the field, in the dugout, or in athletic leadership, Brosius’ influence on baseball continues to resonate well into 2026
