The New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox completed a trade on Sunday that sent lefty Caleb Frare to the White Sox in exchange for $1 million of international bonus pool money, according to a report.
NEW YORK — The Yankees continue to stockpile money to spend on the world amateur scene.
They sent lefty pitcher Caleb Frare to the White Sox in exchange for $1.5 million of international bonus pool allowance.
That brings the international bonus pool figure the Yankees have acquired to $2.5 million in two days.
Late Saturday night, they got $1 million from the Cardinals in exchange for relievers Chasen Shreve and Giovanny Gallegos. The Yankees also received minor-league first baseman Luke Voit.
The Yankees started with a $4.983,500 bonus pool allowance. They now have at least $7,483,500. They also got an unreported amount of bonus money when they sent righty Chad Whitmer to Milwaukee in mid-June.
According to MLB.com’s Jessie Sanchez, the Yankees set the stage for them to sign Cuban righty Osiel Rodriguez, whom MLB.com ranked the No. 9 best international prospect in this year’s class. Sanchez said the deal with the Yankees was expected to be for about $1.1 million.
Frare, 25, was 4-1 with a 0.62 ERA in 31 games and 43 2/3 innings at Double-A Trenton this season. He made one Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre appearance.
The Yankees drafted Frare in the 11th round in 2012.
Here’s the Yankees’ press release on the deal:
The New York Yankees today announced that they have acquired international signing bonus pool money from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for LHP Caleb Frare.
Frare, 25, was 4-1 with a 0.81 ERA (44.2IP, 27H, 7R/4ER, 15BB, 58K, 1HR) in 32 combined games with Double-A Trenton (31G) and Triple-A Scranton/Wilke-Barre (1G) in 2018. Originally drafted by the Yankees in the 11th round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft, the Miles City, Mont., native went 18-12 with a 2.37 ERA (235.0IP, 183H, 77R/62ER, 119BB, 269K, 9HR) in 150 games (2 starts) over five minor league seasons.
