WATCH: Yankees’ Aaron Boone gushes over Luke Voit

Luke Voit stayed hot on Sunday night by going 3-for-3 with a two-run homer and walk in the Yankees’ 5-3 win over the Baltimore Orioles.

BALTIMORE – What stands out most about the Yankees sweeping four games from the Baltimore Orioles at Oriole Park over the weekend was Luke Voit’s coming out party.

A week ago, the big guy was a Triple-A player who had failed to show much in his first short stint with the Yankees since joining the organization in a late July trade from the St. Louis Cardinals.

Three starts in Baltimore later, Voit is making an early run at stealing the Yankees’ starting first base job away from Greg Bird, who is in an 0-for-17 slump and batting .199.

Voit hit a pair of two-run homers and a single in Friday night’s 10-inning win, he was 1-for-3 with an RBI single in Game 1 of Saturday’s day-night doubleheader and then was 3-for-3 with a two-run homer in Sunday night’s 5-3 victory.

After the Yankees swept the O’s, manager Aaron Boone raved about Voit.
