NEW YORK — Watch Yankees first baseman Greg Bird take batting practice with the team for the first time this regular season before a game against the Angels at Yankee Stadium on Saturday, May 26, 2018.

Bird was slated to hit sixth and play first base.

The 25-year-old had missed all season following surgery to remove a bone spur from his right ankle.

The team sent down Ronald Torreyes to make room for Bird.

Here’s what you need to know about Bird, via the team’s PR staff:

  • Was returned from rehab and reinstated from the 10-day disabled list prior to tonight’s game…was placed on the 10-day disabled list on 3/29 (retroactive to 3/26) recovering from right ankle surgery (missed the Yankees’ rst 47 games of the season)…combined with Single-A Tampa, Double-A Trenton and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to bat .205/.367/.436 (8-for-39) with 9R, 3HR, 8RBI and10BB in 12 rehab games.
  • Batted .154 (8-for-52) with 6R, 1 double, 1HR and 4RBI in 18 spring training

    games…was scratched from the lineup prior to 3/24 game at Atlanta with a sore right foot…had an initial examination with Dr. Daniel Murphy in Tampa and underwent a CT scan and an MRI, revealing right foot in ammation…was evaluated by foot and ankle specialist, Dr. Martin O’Malley, in New York on 3/26 and underwent surgery on 3/27 to remove a small broken spur on the outside aspect of his right ankle…the surgery was performed by Dr. O’Malley at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan.

  • Hit .190 (28-for-147) with 20R, 7 doubles, 9HR and 28RBI in 48 games with the Yankees in 2017…missed nearly four months of the season on the disabled list with a right ankle bruise (103 team games)…underwent surgery to remove the os trigonum, a bone in his right ankle, on 7/18/17…had 14R, 8HR and 25RBI in 29 games after returning from the D.L. on 8/26.

  • Reached base safely in 12 of his 13 postseason games played, hitting 3HR…hit a solo HR o Andrew Miller in the seventh inning of ALDS Game 3 vs. Cleveland, accounting for the only run of the game.

  • Was selected by the Yankees in the fth round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft.
