Michael King Named Starter for Spring Training Opener

Manager Aaron Boone has named young Michael King the starter for Yankees Spring Training opener against our division rival Blue Jays on Sunday, March 28th at 1:05PM.

King is one of many pitchers the Yankees have that could have a breakout year in 2021. With his nasty sinker, curve. and changeup combo he can be one of many pitchers the Yankees rely on as a fifth starter, or even be used in the bullpen as a long relief type pitcher.

Evidently King has been a tremendous pitcher in the minor leagues posting a 2.93 ERA in 387.0 IP with a 1.06 WHIP. He’s also had a taste of the big leagues in 2019 and 2020. He totaled 28.2 IP, posted an ERA of 7.22, and a 1.50 WHIP. Not a big sample size to go off of since 26.2 of his IP in were in 2020. This was a year lots of players had down years due to the mess Covid-19 caused and MLB’s shortened season. As most things come back to normal us Yankee fans should keep our eyes open on King as he can be a big contributor to this ball club. I wouldn’t bet against him to have a breakout year. Many things to look forward to with this young New York native.
