Ex-Yankee Alex Rodriguez on Robinson Cano’s PED suspension: ‘Tough road back’

Alex Rodriguez broke his silence on Robinson Cano’s suspension during ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball.

Even if Alex Rodriguez wanted to avoid talking about Robinson Cano’s suspension, his role in the game wouldn’t allow for it.

Unlike another former teammate, Mark Teixeira, A-Rod didn’t make the rounds last week to talk about Cano, their relationship or his feelings on the 80-game suspension that the now-Mariners star is serving.

Instead, Rodriguez waited to share his thoughts with an audience that he couldn’t avoid: ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball viewers.

During Sunday evening’s Cleveland Indians vs. Houston Astros tilt, Rodriguez talked about Cano’s ban and where his friend and former workout buddy can go from here in his career.

“I do know that it will be a long road back, a tough road back, but I’m confident that Robinson Cano is going to come back and continue his spectacular career and I hope at the same time he can learn a great lesson and make his life even better,” Rodriguez said.

Before diving into that though, A-Rod said it was tough for him because he “loves Robbie.”

Yanks helping M’s?

Rodriguez and Cano were teammates on the Yankees from 2005-2013. That time span included Rodriguez’s days as an AL MVP (2005, 2007), a World Series title together as part of one of the most productive infields of all time (2009) and Rodriguez’s issues with performance-enhancing drug allegations and suspension.

If Cano is going to bounce back and become a fan favorite again, Rodriguez is a good model to follow over the next few years.
