‘Beast-mode’ Yankees ‘going after everybody’ after sweeping Mariners

The Yankees improved their MLB-best record to 50-22 by sweeping three games from the Seattle Mariners. Luis Severino picked up his 11th win on Thursday, June 21, 2018 (6/21/18) in the 4-3 win at Yankee Stadium.

NEW YORK Yankees ace Luis Severino didn’t feel like himself from the second inning on Thursday and had to gut his way through 5 2/3 innings against a good Seattle Mariners lineup that made him work hard.

Severino still picked up his 11th win and the Yankees earned their 50th in 72 games by holding on for a 4-3 victory that finished off a three-game sweep of a club that hit New York this week 20 games over .500.

After talking about his pitching during a short post-game interview, Severino was asked if the Yankees feel like they sent any kind of message having beaten up on an American League power.

Severino’s response was classic.

“I would say everybody right now is in beast mode going after everybody,” he said. “We’re not looking at records or who’s the best team. We’re just going after everybody.”

Yanks ‘long shot’ for deGrom

They’re beating everybody and really manhandling the other top teams, as they’re 14-5 against the four other clubs that would be in the postseason if the season ended today – the Houston Astros (5-2), Boston Red Sox (3-3), Cleveland Indians (3-0) and Mariners (3-0).

“I don’t care who we’re playing, but I think when you look at it, it is gratifying to know that we’ve played pretty well against some of the elite teams and some of the hot teams,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “But I think it just speaks to what we believe our team is capable of and the confidence these guys have no matter who the opponent is.”
