NEW YORK — President Donald Trump isn’t getting enough credit for his good work.

That’s according to former Yankees outfielder Johnny Damon, who backed Trump’s campaign and is friends with the commander in chief.

“I think he’s doing a great job,” Damon said at Old-Timers Day at Yankee Stadium on Sunday. “Unfortunately, people don’t really want to hear the truth that’s out there.”

What are former Yankees doing?

Damon has been vocal for his support of Trump going back to 2015, when Trump was running for the Republican primary.

Damon and Trump became friends when Damon started playing at the Trump International Golf Club West Palm in West Palm Beach, Fla., about a decade ago. Damon was also on Trump’s “The Celebrity Apprentice” TV show.

“There are some things he can do better but he’s trying to get everything done and the two biggest things we haven’t tackled are health care and immigration and the reason why is because people aren’t voting for it,” Damon said. “People have jobs that we appointed in offices — vote, do your job, do what’s right for America, and a lot of people would rather see President Trump fail than help him get the U.S.A. back on track.”

Damon was asked what he wants to see in health care and immigration reform.

“Health care is a total mess,” Damon said. “Everyone agrees on it but no one wants to do anything about it. As far as Immigration, I say you let people in, but the thing is, you have to have papers. I have papers. You have papers. If you’re going to be here, just be here legally, and come on over. America is the greatest place in the world and we’re not going to turn our backs on anyone, but would you just want people to walk into your country and not know where they’re going? That becomes an issue.”

Retired Yankees outfielder Paul O’Neil has also backed Trump. Team president Randy Levine has known Trump for years and met with Trump, alongside MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred, last year.
