Why it looks like Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton won't make All-Star Game

Fans have the chance to vote Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton into the 2018 MLB All-Star Game, which will happen Monday, July 16, 2018, at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. Aaron Judge, Luis Severino, Aroldis Chapman and Gleyber Torres have already made the American League team.

Time is running out on Giancarlo Stanton.

The Yankees surely envisioned Stanton representing them on the American League All-Star Team when they acquired him from the Marlins in the offseason. They actually probably believed he’d do it for years in a row, especially considering he’s coming off winning the National League MVP.

Looks like it won’t happen.

Stanton, the Yankees’ designated hitter/outfield masher, was in third place in the Fan Vote as of Wednesday.

Yankees mailbag

They have until Wednesday to rally and vote in Stanton for the game, which will take place Monday in Washington, D.C. Stanton has already said he has no interest in participating in this year’s Home Run Derby.

Stanton hopes to join four Yankees teammates on the AL All-Star roster. Aaron Judge, Luis Severino, Aroldis Chapman and rookie Gleyber Torres each were voted in.

Stanton was hitting .272 with 22 home runs, 52 RBI and a .864 OPS going into Tuesday.

The Yankees have been promoting the #ASGiancarlo hashtag on Twitter to get the 28-year-old in. They teamed with the Dodgers, hoping fans will also vote for Max Munch via #VoteMuncy.

Here’s what Judge said on passing on the Home Run Derby recently:

“The main reason why I did it was for the fans,” Judge said Sunday after being voted by fans into the American League’s starting lineup. “That’s really the only reason why you do it … for the fans. Put on a good show.

“This year, we’ve got something special going on here. I’m kind of sad I’m not doing it, but we’ve got something pretty special here. I just want to stay healthy going into the second half.”
