How much is Aaron Boone making to lead 2nd-place Yankees?

Aaron Boone is reportedly making the most money of any first-year manager in the majors.

Aaron Boone was the Yankees‘ guy last fall, and the franchise paid him like a manager it believed in.

According to Jon Heyman of Fancred Sports, Boone is the highest-paid rookie manager in the majors this season–which partially could stem from the Yankees offering a good deal to pry the former analyst away from television.

Aaron Boone’s three-year deal with a club option for a fourth year is slightly higher than that of the other rookie managers, presumably due either to it being the Yankees or having to compete with his ESPN salary. Word is, he got $1.15 million in the first year …

While manager salaries in baseball typically aren’t noteworthy, the distinction means Boone is being paid more than Boston’s Alex Cora and Philadelphia’s Gabe Kapler. If the season ended today, both would presumably earn more Manager of the Year consideration in their particular leagues for the job done this season.

Here’s how each first-year manager has fared so far this season:

Boone, Yankees: 78-46

Cora, Red Sox: 88-37

Kapler, Phillies: 68-56

Mickey Callaway, Mets: 54-69

Dave Martinez, Nationals: 62-63

Ron Gardenhire, Tigers: 51-74

The Yankees are on pace for over 100 wins, but that won’t guarantee Boone any credit from a fan base that rightfully expected World Series contention this season. And while that can still occur, New York could have to go through the AL Wild Card Game, then see Cora’s historically good Red Sox in the ALDS.
