How Red Sox trolled Yankees’ Brian Cashman hard after beatdown

Even the Red Sox’s Twitter account joined in the 15-7 smack down of the Yankees on Thursday, August 2, 2018 (8/2/18). Boston took a 6.5-game lead over New York in the American League East with the series-opening win. The Red Sox own the best record in baseball (76-34).

BOSTON — Even the Red Sox‘s social media manager got in on the smackdown.

After Boston ripped the Yankees, 15-7, at Fenway Park on Thursday night, the team’s Twitter account jumped in with a jab.

The Red Sox’s account tweeted “Damage done” following the game.

That was a reference to general manager Brian Cashman‘s comments from Tuesday.

While speaking to the media not long after the trade deadline, Cashman said the Yankees seemed like the only team that played well against Boston this season. Entering Thursday’s romp, the Yankees were 5-4 against their American League East rivals.

“You wonder what their record would be if they weren’t playing us,” Cashman said. “Because when we go head to head, we do some damage against them and it doesn’t seem like anybody else is capable.”

The Red Sox have baseball’s best record at 76-34. The Yankees are second best at 68-39.

The Yankees lost the series opener, allowing a season-high 15 runs, marking their most runs allowed since Aug. 25, 2015, vs. Houston.

They fell to 5-5 against the Red Sox this season, including 1-3 at Fenway Park. They have lost six of eight games at the venue.

The Yankees lost for just the third time this season when scoring at least seven runs (32-3).
