How Yankees’ Luis Severino had the best All-Star Game

Yankees ace Luis Severino had quite the eventful night at the 2018 MLB All-Star Game at Nationals Park in Washington, DC on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 (7/18/18), contributing a scoreless inning to an 8-6 extra-innings win by the American League.

WASHINGTON — Luis Severino didn’t touch the field his first All-Star Game last year.

This time, the Yankees‘ ace had a bit more fun.

Severino pulled a hat trick of awesomeness in the American League’s 8-6 win over the National League in the 2018 MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday at Nationals Park.

First, he caught Aaron Judge‘s second-inning solo shot while warming up in the bullpen.

Then Severino brought his cell phone to the mound for a selfie as he warmed up.

Finally, he gave up just a double to Matt Kemp while striking out a pair, including Bryce Harper, in the second inning.

Severino said he didn’t realize what he had done when he stuck out his glove and snagged Judge’s bomb.

“I didn’t know it was him,” Severino said. “I saw it as he was running. It was cool. He didn’t get a hit last year. This year, he hit a homer. It’s great.”

Of course, Severino played it cool.

“I’m a natural outfielder,” he said.

On Monday, Severino said he had a moment in which he wanted to pinch himself.

Severino sat at the same dinner table as a trio of aces: the Astros’ Gerrit Cole, the Red Sox’s Chris Sale and the Astros’ Justin Verlander.

“How great is that?” he said. “Seeing all those guys. When you sit down with those guys, you just want to know how, how they do it, what’s their key for being so good. Yesterday was one of the greatest moments I’ve had here.”

Did he get to pick up anything from them?

“Not yet,” he said. “But I will.”

Maybe they can pick up a few tips on how to let loose from Severino.
