Yankees second baseman Gleyber Torres (strained hip) and Gary Sanchez (groin strain) …

CLEVELAND — They’re closer.

Yankees second baseman Gleyber Torres (strained hip) and catcher Gary Sanchez (groin strain) each worked out at Progressive Field before a game against the Indians on Thursday.

Torres ran and took grounders. Sanchez ran the bases and played catch. Manager Aaron Boone said it’s possible Sanchez will start a rehab assignment Sunday.

Would Yankees put Machado at shortstop?

Here are some notes before Thursday’s Yankees-Indians game, via the Yankees’ media relations department.

AT A GLANCE: The Yankees begin their final series before the All-Star break tonight, with 4G at Cleveland (through Sunday)… are 4-3 on their 11-game road trip, winning 2-of-3 at Toronto last weekend and splitting 4G at Baltimore this week… following the break, will play host to the Mets for 3G (7/20-22).

>> At 60-31 (.659), have the Majors’ second-best record behind Boston (65-29, .691)… the Yankees and Red Sox have held (at least a share of) the Majors’ two best records on 68 of the last 70 days (since the end of play on 5/3).

>> Are 29G over .500, tying their season high (also end of play on 7/8 and 7/9).

POCKET ACES: Tonight’s game features two of the Majors’ four pitchers with at least 12 wins this season, in RHP Luis Severino (14-2) and RHP Corey Kluber (12-4)… both pitchers are on the AL roster for next week’s All-Star Game.

>> Severino has already defeated two other 2018 All-Stars during his current five-start winning streak, with wins over Blue Jays LHP J.A. Happ on Sat. in Toronto and Mariners LHP James Paxton on 6/21 vs. Seattle… tonight marks his fifth start against another All-Star this season (also beat Happ on 3/29 at Toronto, and lost to Red Sox LHP Chris Sale on 4/10 at Boston).

SEVY SEASON: At 14-2, RHP Luis Severino leads the Majors in wins by two over Corey Kluber, Aaron Nola and Blake Snell… his 2.12 ERA is third in the AL (fourth in the Majors) to Justin Verlander’s 2.05 and Snell’s 2.09.

>> Is the fourth pitcher in franchise history to record 14 wins prior to the All-Star break, joining Mel Stottlemyre (14-7 in 24GS in 1969), Whitey Ford (16-2 in 21GS in 1961) and Lefty Gomez (14-2 in 19G/17GS in 1934)… no Yankee has won more than 14 games in a season since 2012 (Phil Hughes, 16-13; Hiroki Kuroda, 16-11; CC Sabathia, 15-6).

>> Has won five consecutive starts, the longest active winning streak in MLB… the last longer streak by a Yankee was Ivan Nova’s eight-start winning streak from 7/1-9/2/11.

>> With 495 career strikeouts, needs 5K to become the third pitcher in Yankees history to reach 500K prior to turning 25 years old (Al Downing-644, Lefty Gomez-511).
