Mets’ Jacob deGrom is ‘tired of losing?’ Here’s latest on Yankees rumors from Aaron Boone

Yankees manager Aaron Boone talked about trade rumors involving his club dealing for a pitcher following Saturday night’s 11-0 loss to the Boston Red Sox.

NEW YORK — If you want, go ahead and read into that interesting post-game quote that Mets ace Jacob deGrom gave Saturday in Miami after his three-run, six-inning start resulted in another defeat.

“I’m tired of losing to be honest,” deGrom said after the Mets lost for the 10th time in 11 games and 22nd time in their last 27 to drop their NL-worst record to 32-48.

Tired of losing, huh?

Maybe that was deGrom’s way of publicly telling the Mets, “Trade me to the Yankees right now!”

The rumors of a New York-New York summer blockbuster going down before baseball’s July 31 trade deadline have been out there for weeks and this one-liner will keep ’em hot.

deGrom, 30, is 5-4 with an NL-best 1.84 ERA in 18 starts.

Meantime, over in the Bronx, we saw firsthand once again why the 53-27 Yankees can’t go into postseason play this year with Luis Severino as their only ace when the other AL superpowers – Houston, Boston and Cleveland – have (at least) three apiece.

Righty Sonny Gray, hailed as a frontline starter last July when the Yankees traded three of their best farmhands to get him from Oakland, outdid himself providing another letdown on Saturday night.

This time, Gray gave up a first-inning grand slam to Rafael Devers and six runs overall  in 2 1/3 innings in an 11-0 loss to the Red Sox.

Afterward, manager Aaron Boone was asked if he’s been keeping tabs with GM Brian Cashman on trade talks and if he’s now thinking his club needs another ace.

“I keep up with it in that I’m talking with Brian every day,” Boone said. “I’m not hardcore in the room like they are brainstorming, going through the different organizations, working every possible angle.

“I think we can compete with anyone in baseball as we are. That said, I know Brian and the front office and (managing partner) Hal (Steinbrenner) are going to go and explore every option to try to make us better.”

Stay tuned.

Who knows if something will get done, but for sure the Yankees could entice the Mets to saying yes by offering three or four of their best pieces from a farm system that has a couple dozen high-ceiling prospects.

“Whether that happens or not remains to be seen, but I know our organization isn’t going to not try to improve our club, especially as good as we are,” Boone said.
