MLB playoffs 2018: Did Yankees’ Luis Severino screw up start time to ALDS Game 3 vs. Red Sox?

Yankees starting pitcher Luis Severino got rocked in Game 3 of the ALDS vs. the Red Sox at Yankee Stadium on Monday, Oct. 8, 2018.

NEW YORK — It was the biggest game of the Yankees‘ season.

Maybe the biggest moment of Luis Severino‘s career.

And Severino couldn’t get his own schedule straight … reportedly.

Severino showed up late to his warmup before Game 3 of the American League Division Series vs. the Red Sox at Yankee Stadium on Monday, according to the TBS broadcast team.

Analyst Ron Darling said Severino didn’t get to the bullpen until 7:32 p.m. — just eight minutes before the 7:40 p.m. first pitch.

It’s unclear how much the likely-rushed bullpen session hurt Severino’s performance.

It definitely didn’t help.

Severino got shelled, giving up three runs and getting the hook after three-plus innings. The right-hander left with the bases loaded in the fourth inning, only to watch Lance Lynn allow all the runs to score.

Severino’s final line: 3-plus innings, six earned runs, seven hits, two walks and two strikeouts.

Is Mattingly getting fired?

The Yankees were down, 7-0, when Lynn was removed with one out in the fourth.

Before the game, manager Aaron Boone said he was excited for Severino to get on the mound.

“I feel great that he’s pitching tonight and feel like some of the trials that he’s gone through this year even more prepare him for these kinds of outings and these kinds of moments,” Boone said.
