MLB rumors: How much could Dallas Keuchel cost Yankees’ Brian Cashman?

New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman is shopping for starting pitching. He could take a look at Houston Astros left-hander Dallas Keuchel, a two-time All-Star who won the American League Cy Young Award in 2015.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman is scouring the free agent market for starting pitching.

Among the top pitchers available is Houston Astros left-hander Dallas Keuchel.

He rejected Houston’s qualifying offer on Monday and will look for a bigger payday this offseason. How big? The Houston Chronicle has an idea …

Keuchel declining the Astros’ offer formally makes him among the most sought-after free agent starting pitchers in an otherwise lean market. During the 10 days he held the qualifying offer, Keuchel and his agent, Scott Boras, were permitted to survey the market and his value. MLBTradeRumors projected Keuchel would sign a four-year, $82 million deal.

Keuchel and Diamondbacks southpaw Patrick Corbin — who also declined a qualifying offer on Monday — are considered the two most proven starting pitchers in the free agent market. Keuchel possesses more postseason experience, though.

“Dallas Keuchel is the Tom Glavine, Andy Pettitte of our generation,” Boras said last week during his hour-long scrum with reporters at the general manager’s meetings. “He is one of the few guys in the postseason that gives you that true big-time performance at the right time, whether it be at home or on the road.”

Never one to keep mum the successes of his many clients, Boras boasted Keuchel was “better than Glavine and Pettitte from age 26-30.”

12 worst Yankees contracts

The 30-year-old Kuechel, a two-time All-Star who won the 2015 American League Cy Young Award, has won at least 12 games in four of the last five seasons.
