MLB rumors: Is ex-Yankee Joe Girardi on Reds’ list of manager candidates?

The New York Yankees fired manager Joe Girardi following the club’s Game 7 loss to the Houston Astros in the 2017 American League Championship Series. The Cincinnati Reds are looking for a manager after firing Bryan Price in April.

The Cincinnati Reds have created their list of managerial candidates.

As of right now, it does not include former Yankees manager Joe Girardi, according to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale:

Girardi was linked to the Reds as soon as Cincinnati fired manager Bryan Price in April and replaced him with interim manager Jim Riggleman.

Girardi was also linked to the Cardinals when they fired manager Mike Matheny  in July.

However Saint Louis named Mike Shildt the interim manager, before eventually giving him the gig for good.

Fancred’s Jon Heyman wrote earlier this month about why Girardi wouldn’t be a fit in Cincinnati:

Joe Girardi interviewed with the Reds in 2007, after he was fired by the Marlins following his Manager of the Year award-winning season, but Castellini liked Dusty Baker’s experience and loved Baker. Girardi was said to have done quite well in that interview, however. While he isn’t currently working as a manager (he’s an analyst on MLB Network), even if offered he might not take the first job and could be out of their price range (he made $4 million with the Yankees at the end of his deal) …

Ex-Yankee to replace Mike Scioscia?

The Yankees parted ways with Girardi after the 2017 season, which ended with a Game 7 loss to the Houston Astros in the American League Championship Series.

In February, Girardi joined MLB Network as an analyst.

PROSPECT SPOTLIGHT
Tyler Nunez, a C from Lake Nona HS, is a 6'2 190lb athletic catcher who provides strength with the bat and glove. During BP, Tyler stuck with a middle of the field approach while staying on a line. He impacted the ball well with his compact and direct path, T90EV. He showed off his real athleticism behind the plate by posting a 2.04 pop time while staying around the bag on every throw. He is a good looking athletic uncommitted catcher to keep an eye on.
