MLB rumors: Why Scott Boras doesn’t buy that Yankees don’t want Bryce Harper

When it was suggested to the agent that the Yankees had been putting out word that they weren’t interested in his superstar client Bryce Harper, Boras threw history back in the Yankees’ face.

CARLSBAD, Calif. — Scott Boras isn’t buying it.

When it was suggested to the agent that the Yankees had been putting out word that they weren’t interested in his superstar client Bryce Harper, Boras threw history back in the Yankees’ face.

“They said that about Mark Teixeira, too,” Boras told reporters at the 2018 MLB GM Meetings at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa on Wednesday afternoon.

Boras was referring to when the Yankees appeared disinterested in the slugging first baseman, only to give Texieria an eight-year, $180-million deal in 2008.

Boras also heaped praise on the 26-year-old, calling him a “generational” talent.

“Certainly Harper’s bazaar has begun,” Boras said, referring to the stir Harper’s free agency has created.

“It’s fashionable. It’s historical. It’s elite. Global certainly. And certainly it has inspirations that deal with great shoes and great hair.”

Could Harper play first base?

On Tuesday, there were whispers that Harper might be open to playing first base for the Yankees.
On MLB Network Radio on Tuesday, (Scott) Boras threw a potential position change out there for his 26-year-old star outfielder.
“Bryce has the feet, hands and skill to certainly adapt to first base,” the agent said.
What does Yankees general manager Brian Cashman think about Boras’ comment and about the possibility of Harper as a first baseman?
Cashman didn’t want to get into it.
“Do I think Bryce Harper could play first base? I don’t know,” he said at the 2018 MLB GM Meetings at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa on Tuesday. “I don’t know. Obviously he’s extremely talented and athletic.
