MLB trade rumors: Do Yankees have any untouchable prospects?

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman was asked if he was at all concerned about trading from the farm system at the 2018 MLB GM Meetings.

CARLSBAD, Calif. — Anybody could go.

In years past, the Yankees have put untouchable tags on a handful of prospects, from Gleyber Torres to Luis Severino to Aaron Judge and to Gary Sanchez. Maybe even more.

Now? Doesn’t seem like there’s a single prospect in the Yankees’ farm system that general manager Brian Cashman wouldn’t part with in the right deal.

“No, I’m not reluctant to trade from the farm at all,” Cashman said at the 2018 MLB GM Meetings at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa on Wednesday. “Just depends what the asks are and when there are too many layers or its the wrong names. Just depends on the player we’re trying to get. I feel like the offers we made last winter were the right ones.”

13 Yankees things to know

The Yankees’ top prospect, starting pitcher Justus Sheffield, doesn’t seem ready to pitch in the major leagues full time — at least based off Cashman’s response when asked if it’s possible he could be in the Opening Day rotation. Cashman said he’d prefer to find two more distinguished options on the free agent or trade market than potentially have a spring training fifth starter battle.

Cashman also mentioned Jonathan Loaisiga and Domingo German as a pair of arms that impressed the most last year. Cashman added that former top pitching prospect Chance Adams “got his feet wet” at the big-league level with a good debut in a start against the Red Sox in Fenway Park.
