MLB trade rumors: Mets’ Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard available in fire sale? Would Mets strike a deal with Yankees?

The Mets are 27-32 and stuck on a six-game losing streak going into the Subway Series against the Yankees on Friday, June 8, 2018 (6/8/18) at Citi Field. Jacob deGrom will face Masahiro Tanaka to open the series. Is Mets GM Sandy Alderson ready to move deGrom and Noah Syndergaard in a fire sale?

The losses are piling up for the Mets. Six straight going into Friday’s Subway Series with the Yankees.

Stuck in fourth place in the NL East at 27-32, at what point does GM Sandy Alderson begin a fire sale and listen to offers for aces Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard?

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, that time is just about here:

Mets officials have indicated to me they would be crazy not to be open for business if their season continues to plummet, though I sense if they took a dramatic step they would only want to trade deGrom or Syndergaard (probably being more open-minded to Syndergaard) and retain the other because they want to avoid a full rebuild. They also signaled they would consider the Yankees, though the two New York teams got contentious about near deals last year for Bruce and Neil Walker. DeGrom/Syndergaard would be a different weight class and more fraught with tension.

The Mets can wait a few more weeks and see if they reverse into a contender, think further if it is best to build around deGrom/Syndergaard rather than break it up.

Mets ready to deal deGrom?

The Yankees will get to scout both deGrom and Syndergaard this weekend. DeGrom pitches Friday and Syndergaard is scheduled to go Sunday.

The Yankees are in need of an arm, with Jordan Montgomery having season-ending Tommy John surgery.

They don’t get much better than deGrom, who is 4-0 with an NL-leading 1.49 ERA. He’ll be opposed by Masahiro Tanaka Friday night.

Syndergaard is no slouch at 4-1 with a 3.06 ERA. He’s scheduled to go up against Yankees ace Luis Severino on ESPN’s ‘Sunday Night Baseball.’
