MLB trade rumors: Mets’ Jeurys Familia will draw a crowd at Yankee Stadium

The New York Mets need to make some decisions before the July 31, 2018 (7/31/18) non-waiver trade deadline. Will they move aces Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard? How about closer Jeurys Familia? Several contenders, including the Yankees, Red Sox and Phillies, are shopping for help in the bullpen.

Once the San Diego Padres traded closer Brad Hand to the Cleveland Indians, Baltimore Orioles reliever Zach Britton became the most coveted bullpen arm, with several contenders, including the YankeesRed Sox and Phillies, showing some level of interest.

But he’s not the only reliever on the trade market whose stock is rising, per SNY’s Andy Martino:

Mets have gotten to the point of exchanging names with teams on Jeurys Familia trades. Nothing is imminent but bet on him moving well before deadline. 7-8 teams have shown varying degrees of interest, plenty of scouts to see him tonight.

MLB bold predictions

Familia and the Mets open a three-game Subway Series with the Yankees on Friday night in the Bronx.

The Mets are going nowhere this season. They are in last place in the National League East with a 39-55 record, putting them 13.5 games behind the first-place Phillies.

The Mets have to decide which players they want to sell off before the July 31st non-waiver trade deadline.

Most contenders are curious to see if they can pry Jacob deGrom or Noah Syndergaard from the Mets. The right-handers would easily be the best available pitchers on the trade market if the Mets decide to make them available.

As for Familia, the 28-year-old owns a 2.88 ERA across 40.2 innings this season for the slumping Mets. Since debuting in 2012, Familia has been one of the best in the sport and became a star when taking off in 2014. Over the last four-plus years, Familia owns a 2.47 ERA in nearly 300 innings.
