MLB trade rumors: Mets’ Noah Syndergaard to Yankees for Estevan Florial-led package?

If the Yankees won’t give up a haul for Mets ace Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard to the Bronx could the next best thing. Yankees GM Brian Cashman is looking for starting pitching before the July 31, 2018 (7/31/18) non-waiver trade deadline after injuries to Jordan Montgomery and Masahiro Tanaka.

Could Thor be the missing piece in the Bronx?

Over the last few weeks, Jacob deGrom has been connected in trade rumors to the Yankees. Part of the initial reason: Noah Syndergaard is young and generally viewed as having the higher upside moving forward.

But things have evolved.

The Mets seem more willing to move Syndergaard and are asking for a package the Yankees likely aren’t willing to meet for deGrom.

So what could a potential Syndergaard deal to the Yankees deal look like? Bleacher Report put together a trade involving four of the best Yankees prospects, including center fielder Estevan Florial. The others: RHP Luis Medina, RHP Cody Carroll, OF Billy McKinney. That package includes four of the top 16 prospects in the Yankees system.

Here’s what the site said about the offer.

Assuming the Yankees won’t be willing to part with rookie infielders Gleyber Torres or Miguel Andujar, the centerpiece of a Syndergaard blockbuster would have to be 20-year-old outfielder Estevan Florial.

His full-season debut resulted in one of the biggest prospect breakouts of 2017, as he hit .298/.372/.479 with 43 extra-base hits and 23 steals in Single-A and High-A. He has some swing and miss to his game, but he’s also shown plus plate discipline and has a chance to be an impact center fielder.

The X-factor that could help the Yankees acquire Syndergaard is Luis Medina. The 19-year-old is not on top-100 lists, but his ceiling is as high as any pitching prospect in baseball.

Andujar for deGrom?

Syndergaard, 25, on the mend from a finger injury, owns a 3.06 ERA in 11 games started this season. Since debuting in 2015, Syndergaard has posted a 2.92 ERA and 5.94 SO/BB ratio across 428.2 innings.
