MLB trade rumors: Mets’ Noah Syndergaard’s take on the ‘mumbo jumbo’

The New York Mets are in fourth place in the National League East and fading fast. Will general manager Sandy Alderson trade aces Noah Syndergaard and Jacob deGrom before the July 31, 2018 (7/31/18) non-waiver deadline?

The Mets head into play Thursday with a 31-40 record, good for fourth place in the National League East, 11 games behind the first-place Atlanta Braves.

Clearly, this is not the year for the Mets.

So general manager Sandy Alderson will spend the next six weeks deciding if he wants to blow up his roster and completely rebuild from the ground up, or if he wants to wait out the season and build around his aces, Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard.

Starting pitching is always in demand before the July 31st non-waiver trade deadline, and this year will be no different.

Especially with the crosstown Yankees looking like a World Series contender.

The Yankees have built a two-game lead over the Boston Red Sox in the American League East and own the best record in baseball.

But with injuries to Masahiro Tanaka and Jordan Montgomery, general manager Brian Cashman is shopping for starters.

That has the rumor mill working overtime with ways the Mets could trade deGrom or Syndergaard to the Bronx.

But Syndergaard brushed off the trade scuttlebutt, per the New York Post:

“To be quite honest I haven’t been paying much attention to that mumbo jumbo,” Syndergaard said, when asked about the trade rumors. “I can only control what’s in my control. If that were to happen, it’s completely outside of what I am capable of controlling.”

Yanks should trade Andujar for deGrom

Syndergaard is 4-1 this season with a 3.06 ERA. But he hasn’t pitched since May 25th because of a strained ligament in his right index finger.
