MLB trade rumors: Ex-Yankees outfielder on Brian Cashman’s waiver deadline wish list?

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman might try to pick up a bat before the August 31, 2018 (8/31/18) waiver deadline, especially with right fielder Aaron Judge (broken wrist) and catcher Gary Sanchez (groin strain) on the disabled list. Former Yankee and current Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Curtis Granderson could be an option.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman was a busy man before the July 31st non-waiver trade deadline.

Among his most notable moves were the additions of Baltimore Orioles reliever Zach Britton, Toronto Blue Jays left-hander J.A. Happ and Minnesota Twins right-hander Lance Lynn.

Missing from that list was help for the offense.

Yes, right fielder Aaron Judge (broken wrist) and catcher Gary Sanchez (groin strain) should return by September for the final playoff push.

But with outfielder Clint Frazier recovering from post-concussion symptoms and Jacoby Ellsbury out for the season following hip surgery, the Yankees could use an extra outfielder.

Fancred’s Jon Heyman thinks former Yankee Curtis Granderson is a possible waiver-deadline pickup for the Yankees:

Curtis Granderson, Blue Jays OF: There was said to be some interest last month, with the Cubs, Phillies and Yankees mentioned. He’d bring power and a nice clubhouse presence to any contender. Likely to clear.

8 Yankees things to know

The 37-year-old Granderson is hitting .235 with 10 home runs and 31 RBI in 90 games this season, his first in Toronto.

Granderson is a lifetime .252 hitter who spent four seasons with the Yankees (2010-2013). He also spent more than three seasons with the Mets (2013-2017), before going to the Los Angeles Dodgers for the stretch run in 2017.

Granderson is playoff-tested. He’s played in 57 career postseason games, going to the American League Championship Series twice with the Yankees (2010, 2012). He’s made two  trips to the World Series: with the Tigers in 2006 and with the Mets in 2015. Granderson’s teams lost both appearances in five games.
