NEW YORK — The seats behind home plate at Yankee Stadium have become a hot spot for politicians.

One night after former New Jersey governor Chris Christie took in the opening game of a three-game series between the Yankees and Boston Red Sox, Rudy Giuliani, a newly appointed attorney for President Donald Trump, made his way to the Bronx on Wednesday.

Giuliani sat in the second row directly behind home plate, donning a Yankees hat at times. He chatted with fans around him and cheered emphatically during a Yankees rally in the third inning.

The former New York City mayor joined Trump’s legal team in April in an effort to help the President clear up any ties between the Trump campaign and Russian interference in the 2016 election. 

The 73-year-old Giuliani then contradicted Trump in a Fox News interview on May 2, when the lawyer said Trump repaid his longtime personal attorney, Michael Cohen, $130,000 for a payment made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels. The payment was made by Cohen prior to the 2016 election to keep private an affair between Daniels and Trump.

Trump previously denied knowledge of the payment from Cohen to Daniels, and he later said of Giuliani, “He’ll get his facts straight.”

The former mayor of New York City, used to be a staple in the seats near the Yankees’ dugout at the old Yankee Stadium during his time in office, and given the magnitude of the series between the Red Sox and Yankees, it’s no surprise he carved out time to make an appearance.

The Yankees won the series opener between the two teams with a 3-2 decision on Tuesday, which tied Boston and New York for the best record in MLB at 25-10.
