Umpire Angel Hernandez has plate for ALDS Game 4 | How Yankees’ CC Sabathia has fared

Yankees left-hander CC Sabathia will go into his start Tuesday night in Game 4 of the ALCS against the Boston Red Sox with very good career numbers with Angel Hernandez umpiring behind the plate.

NEW YORK — With the season on the line, the Yankees need to rebound from their most lopsided playoff loss ever Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium.

In addition, the Yankees will have to deal with controversial umpire Angel Hernandez working the plate for Game 4 of the American League Division Series.

While the Red Sox were thumping the Yankees 16-1 in Game 3 to take a 2-games-to-1 lead in the best-of-five, four of Hernandez’s calls at first base were challenged in the first four innings and three were overturned by replay.

The good news for the Yankees is Game 4 starter CC Sabathia has great career numbers with Hernandez calling balls and strikes, although the sample size is surprisingly very limited.

What Angel Hernandez told Luke Voit after replay reviews kept changing blown calls

Hernandez has been a major league umpire since 1991 and Sabathia has been a big leaguer since 2001, but they’ve been matched up on the mound and behind the plate just four times in 18 years.

Sabathia has been great in each of the starts, including their one time together in 2018, while going 3-1 with a 1.45 ERA in four outings.

This will be the first time Sabathia will have Hernandez working the plate for a postseason.

Red Sox Game 4 starter Rick Porcello never has pitched in the regular season or playoffs with Hernandez behind the plate.

Here’s the lowdown of Sabathia pitching with Hernandez umping the plate:

— April 29, 2018: Winning pitcher for Yankees, 7 IP, 5 hits, 1 run, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K in 2-1 victory at Los Angeles Angels.

— July 9 2013: Losing pitcher for Yankees, 9 IP, 7 hits, 3 runs, 2 ER, 2 BB, 6 K in 3-1 home loss to Kansas City Royals.

— May 7, 2007: Winning pitcher for Cleveland Indians, 8 IP, 6 hits, 0 runs, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K in 2-0 victory at Seattle Mariners.

— Sept. 2, 2002 Winning pitcher for Indians, 7 IP, 5 hits, 1 run, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K in 2-1 home win over Detroit Tigers.
