UPDATE: A’s take care of fan drowned in beer by obnoxious Yankees fans at AL Wild Card | Red Sox fans beware!

The New York Yankees beat the Oakland A’s, 7-2, on Wednesday at Yankee Stadium to win the American League Wild Card Game. They will face the Red Sox in the ALDS beginning on Friday, October 5, 2018 (10/5/18) at Fenway Park in Boston, Mass.

UPDATE: The A’s tracked down the fan via social media, per ESPN, and will take care of him:

After loyal Oakland fan John Spencer was caught on video being doused with beer and pelted with a cup at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday night, the A’s wanted to make it right by sending him a care package “that doesn’t smell like beer.”

Spencer, who had tweeted Thursday that he had “met plenty of awesome yankee fans too,” will be getting new A’s gear from the team, who will also host him at a game next season.

For decades, the word “Yankees” evoked a sense of class, a sense of dignity. Much of it no doubt traces back to the glory days of Lou Gehrig and Joe DiMaggio.

Sure, there have been some Yankees who didn’t live up to that gold standard. Mickey Mantle. Billy Martin. Alex Rodriguez.

Look, I understand. Not everyone is a choir boy and not everyone is a model citizen.

But Yankees fans, you should know better than this.

You should know better than to celebrate a cakewalk 7-2 American League Wild Card Game victory over a clearly inferior Oakland A’s squad by devolving to the lowest common denominator.

Look, I wasn’t there. I don’t know the backstory of this video clip.

But really, dumping beers on an A’s fan who’s no doubt not happy with the way the game played out. Really?

Players celebrating in the clubhouse with teammates is one thing. Dousing complete strangers is another thing altogether.

I guess that’s the world we live in now.

But I digress.

Yes, I’m sure those Yankees fans were caught up in the moment, and no doubt pumped to see the club move on to face the hated Boston Red Sox in the American League Division Series.

But Red Sox fans, beware. Should you venture to Yankee Stadium to watch any of the games, better bring your raincoat.

Because you are going to find some very unruly Yankees fans who will be more than interested in showering you with a cold one.

And that’s just a waste of really good (and expensive) beer.

Stay classy, Bleacher Creatures.
