Want Mike Francesa’s new app? This is what it will cost you

Mike’s on … at a cost.

WFAN host Mike Francesa’s much-anticipated app will launch Friday. And it’s kind of pricy.

The app will cost subscribers $8.99 a month or $98 a year, according to a press release. The app, which will be available at 1 p.m. Eastern on Friday, will come with a two-week free trial, according to the release.

Francesa was on a media tour Thursday and will celebrate the app’s launch with his annual end-of-summer show at Bar Assumption in Lake Como on Friday. According to the release, he will be on the air at 1 p.m. on the app as a special lead-in to his WFAN show, which begins at 3 p.m.

Subscribers will also get access to a video simulcast of Francesa’s radio show, as well as exclusive broadcasts of his Sunday NFL show and a new Saturday college football show.

“This app is going to be about me,” Francesa said last week during a question-and-answer session on Twitter. “This app is about me. It’s going to be me on it all the time, it will eventually be my broadcast home.”

Francesa said he plans to be live on it at “crazy hours,” adding he could start yakking at 7 a.m. or 2 a.m., depending on when the spirit moves him. “I promise you, you’ll get sick of me, I’ll be on the app so long,” he said.

Francesa said he’s been planning out the app for years, and he sees it as “the next frontier in sports content.” While his traditional radio show doesn’t go on the air until 3 p.m., he can use the app to weigh in on sports anytime before or after the show.

“I think it’s going to provide a level of immediacy that we haven’t seen before. I think it’s going to be unique,” Francesa said. “The ability to comment at any time, anywhere, before games, during games, after games, to have that kind of immediacy, I think, is not only going to be unique, I think it’s something that is going to catch on.”
