WATCH: Dodgers’ Manny Machado once again proves he’s no ‘Johnny Hustle’ in World Series vs. Red Sox

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Boston Red Sox met in Game 3 of the 2018 World Series on Friday, October 26, 2018 (10/26/18) at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, Calif. Boston has a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series after taking the first two games at Fenway Park in Boston, Mass.

Major league general managers, you’ve been warned. What you see is what you get from Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Manny Machado.

In Game 3 of the 2018 World Series vs. the Boston Red Sox on Friday at Dodger Stadium, Machado came to the plate in the bottom of the sixth inning with Los Angeles clinging to a one-run lead.

Machado turned on a Joe Kelly pitch and drove in to left. Machado dogged it out of the batter’s box, thinking he had a home run.

Except the ball hit off the wall and left fielder J.D. Martinez held Machado to a long single.

In the grand scheme of Game 3, it didn’t mean anything.

But to a GM like Brian Cashman, who’s considering giving Machado a $300 million contract in free agency, it should mean something.

During the playoffs, Machado has time and again proven he is not willing to give 100 percent when it matters most.

In the fourth inning of Game 2 of the National League Championship Series against the Milwaukee Brewers, Machado didn’t hustle down the line in a groundout to shortstop, then told The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, “I’m not the type of player that’s going to be ‘Johnny Hustle,’ and run down the line and slide to first base and … you know, whatever can happen. That’s just not my personality, that’s not my cup of tea, that’s not who I am.”

Machado hasn’t helped his cause with a couple of plays that called his integrity and intelligence into question.

In the 10th inning of Game 4 of the NLCS, Machado caught the back leg of Brewers first baseman Jesus Aguilar while running out a ground ball. That prompted Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich to say, “It was a dirty play by a dirty player.” MLB fined Machado an undisclosed amount.

Projecting 2019 Yankees lineup, rotation

Following Game 2 of the World Series at Fenway Park in Boston, Bleacher Report posted a story which said Machado was caught trying to steal signs.

All this comes at a time when the Yankees are the “front-runners” to sign Machado, according to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale.

Brian Cashman – caveat emptor. You’ve been warned.
