BOSTON — Gleyber Torres raised his fist as he approached first base.

He knew it was gone. He knew what that meant.

Torres’ home run gave the Yankees 265 bombs on the year and the single-season team homer record, breaking the mark of 264 the Mariners set in 1997.

Torres’ blast was a two-run shot scoring Greg Bird to give the Yankees a 4-1 lead over the Red Sox at Fenway Park. It was off Eduardo Rodriguez in a 1-1 count with two outs in the fourth inning.

A non-uniform stadium worker handed the ball to Yankees team security. It hand landed in the Red Sox’s bullpen.

Projecting Yankees’ Wild Card roster, 2.0

The home run also gave the Yankees 20 blasts out of every single spot in the lineup on the season. Torres was hitting ninth, despite now having 24 homers on the season. He entered the game with a .273 batting average and a chance to get looks in the American League Rookie of the Year race.

Yankees right fielder Aaron Judge said Friday night that the team wanted to break the record.

“We’ve got a lot of guys on this team with a lot of thump,” Judge said. “They’ve been doing it all year, especially once we added (Luke) Voit, what he’s been doing for us has been huge.”

Said manager Aaron Boone on Friday: “If you were going to tell us we were going to break that record at the beginning of the year, you would have probably thought Giancarlo (Stanton) is hitting 50 or 60, Judgie is hitting 50 or 60, Gary’s hitting … and because of injuries and different things, that hasn’t been the case.

“We’ve gotten a lot of production from a lot of different people who have had a big hand in that. But more importantly, us finishing off what’s been overall a really strong regular season.”
