8 culprits in Yankees’ slide

Below, check out Yankees notes, courtesy of Boston’s media relations department.

THE YANKEES were swept by the Red Sox in a series of 4+ games for the 7th time in the last 100 seasons and for the 1st time since 2016 (9/15-18, also at Fenway).

*       Was their 2nd time being swept this season, also in a 3-game set at TB (6/22-24).

*       At 68-42 (.618), own MLB’s 3rd-highest winning percentage behind the Red Sox (.690, 78-35) and Astros (.628, 71-42).

*       Have lost a season-high 5 consecutive games…Marks the club’s longest losing streak since a 7-game skid from 6/13-20/17.

*       Marked their 1st loss of 2018 when leading after 8 innings (58-1).

*       Suffered their 3rd walk-off loss of the season and 2nd in extra innings…Also lost via walk-off on 6/24 at TB (12th inning) and 7/10 at BAL (9th inning).

*       Marked NYY’s 1st walk-off loss in extra innings at Fenway Park since 7/21/13 (11th inning, Mike Napoli HR).

*       Fell to 5-8 against the Red Sox this season, including 1-6 at Fenway Park…Have lost 9 of their last 11 games at the venue.

*       Dropped their 5th consecutive contest at Fenway Park (4/12-present)…Is the Yankees’ longest losing streak at Fenway Park since a 7-game skid from 9/28/08-6/11/09, and longest within a single season since 1990 (7 games, 6/4-9/2).

GIANCARLO STANTON (2-for-5, RBI) singled in the 1st and 7th innings, with the latter driving in a run and pushing NYY’s lead to 3-1…Has 12 RBI in his last 15 games.

*       Recorded multiple hits for the 31st time this season, for the 2nd time in as many games, and for the 3rd time in his last 4…Trails only Miguel Andujar’s 32 multi-hit efforts for the most by a Yankee in 2018.

*       According to StatCast, his 121.1 mph single in the 1st inning tied Gary Sanchez’s lineout on 6/19 vs. TB for the hardest-hit batted ball in the majors this year.

*       Has 5 of MLB’s 6 hits in the StatCast era (2015-present) with an exit velocity of 120.0+ mph…Aaron Judge has the only other (HR, 121.1 mph, 6/10/17 vs. BAL).

MASAHIRO TANAKA (4.2 IP, 6 H, R, BB, 9 SO) extended his scoreless-innings streak to a career-high 21.1 IP before allowing a 1-out solo HR to Mookie Betts in the 5th inning…Was his 1st run allowed since the 4th inning on 7/15 at CLE…His previous career-long scoreless-innings streak was 17.2 IP (8/13-30/16).

*       Is the longest scoreless streak by a Yankee this season and longest by a club pitcher since CC Sabathia had a 23.2 scoreless IP streak in 2011 (6/30-7/10).
