It’s a simple question, really.

Who is the Yankees‘ MVP this season?

With four games remaining in the regular season, the Yankees have won 97 games, third-best in baseball.

They have clinched a spot in the American League Wild Card Game and are closing in on locking down home-field advantage for the do-or-die showdown with the Oakland A’s.

Is it Giancarlo Stanton? Yes, he underperformed in his first season in the Bronx. But he still leads the team with 35 home runs and 95 RBI.

Maybe Aaron Hicks, who finally emerged as the everyday center fielder and leads the club with a .368 on-base percentage.

Don’t forget about rookies Miguel Andujar and Gleyber Torres. Andujar leads the team with a .295 batting average and Torres was an American League All-Star.

The answer is: none of the above, at least according to MLB.com, which broke down the MVP for each of the 30 clubs.

According to MLB.com, the Yankees’ MVP is shortstop Didi Gregorius:

Championed as “the captain of the infield” by manager Aaron Boone, Gregorius has provided the Yankees with leadership as well as above-average play on both sides of the ball. He has hit a career-high 27 homers, shattering his own record for the most by a Yanks shortstop, while committing just five errors. Gregorius slumped in May (.149 average) after a sensational April (1.156 OPS), but his numbers steadily improved each month thereafter.

Why Joe Girardi is best manager available

Gregorius is close to returning to the lineup, after suffering torn cartilage in his right wrist.
