Yankees’ Aaron Judge: I still feel pain; What’s next?

Yankees right fielder Aaron Judge (fractured right wrist) says he still feels pain but reported no setbacks in his rehab following a 3-2 loss to the Mariners at Safeco Field on Sunday.

SEATTLE — It still hurts, but Aaron Judge is doing it anyway.

The Yankees slugger’s right wrist is still fractured and there’s still pain when he swings, he said after a 3-2 loss to the Mariners at Safeco Field on Sunday night.

Yet he’s pleased with his progress and believes he’ll be back to play “meaningful” games in September for the Yankees, who haven’t had him in the lineup since he took a fastball off the wrist and went on the disabled list July 27.

“It’ll be no problem,” Judge said of not being able to face live pitching before rejoining the majors, a product of the end of the minor-league season.

“I’m confident with how my bat’s feeling right now. I was confident when it first happened that I’d be back into some meaningful games down the stretch here. I’m just excited to get closer. I know I’m getting one step closer every day to getting back on the field.”

Did Yankees just tip who will start Wild Card?

Judge said he expects to hit on the field in Minnesota, where the Yankees will start a three-game series Monday.

“Getting closer everyday,” he said. “We’re obviously making progress. Hitting on the field in Minnesota. Just keep it rolling.”

Manager Aaron Boone had said that he believed Judge would be able to take on-field batting practice at Target Field.

In the past, he’s said the Yankees were waiting for the pain to leave Judge’s wrist.

But Judge said he’s still at about a four or a five on a scale of 10 in terms of how much pain he feels in it.

“The pain’s not gone. It’s still broken,” he said.

Boone said the plan for Judge on Sunday was to hit in the cage.

“Came out of (Saturday) really strong,” Boone said. “So, again, the fact that he continues to bounce back as we even up the workload has been really encouraging. I think he’s got even a little extra pep in his step. I think he’s excited about how he’s starting to feel. Again, I think just continues to build momentum.”
