Yankees’ Giancarlo Stanton reacts to Red Sox fan hitting him with ball

A Red Sox fan hit Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton with his own home run ball with a throw from the Green Monster on Saturday.

BOSTON — No biggie.

Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton laughed off a fan hitting him with his own home run ball following a 8-5 win over the Red Sox on Saturday.

“He got his target,” Stanton said. “He got in trouble for it. Things are fine on this side.”

The fan threw back the home run ball Stanton hit over the Green Monster for a solo shot in the seventh inning.

The ball one-hopped Stanton as he rounded second base. After it hit him, Stanton and Boston shortstop Brock Holt each looked into the crowd to figure out what had just happened.

Manager Aaron Boone said he would prefer fans not to throw home-run balls back onto the field.

“I think [in] some places, it’s tradition. Should probably just hang on to it,” Boone said.

The ball was the Yankees’ 266th homer of the year. Earlier in the game, Gleyber Torres hit a home run that gave the Yankees the single-season franchise home run record, snapping the mark the Mariners had owned since 1997.

Stanton said the fan, who got thrown out, may have missed out on making some cash.

“Not too worried about it. Plus, that could be a special ball. We needed it anyway. I think he lost some money, possibly,” Stanton said.

It’s not the first time a fan hit a Yankee with a home-run ball.

In 2015, a fan hit left fielder Brett Gardner in the head at Yankee Stadium. Gardner had a bump on his head for days.
