Yankees-Nationals: Wednesday’s games postponed by rain

Rain the rest of Wednesday, May 16, 2018 (5/16/18) postponed the Yankees and Nationals games at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. The games have been rescheduled for June 18, 2018 (6/18/18). Aaron Boone and the Yankees return to action on Friday, May 18, 2018 (5/18/18) in Kansas City, Mo. where they have a weekend series with the Royals.

WASHINGTON — The Yankees and Nationals games for Wednesday were postponed due to rain.

The games have been moved to June 18.

The teams were due to finish Tuesday’s game — that was suspended after 5 1/2 innings with the score tied at 3-all — at 5:05 p.m. Wednesday. Then they were scheduled to play at 7:05 p.m.

The teams have a mutual off day Thursday but scheduling conflicts — and the threat of even more rain — forced the teams not to schedule for that day.

The Yankees will head to Kansas City on Wednesday. They face the Royals on Friday.

Cashman reveals Frazier’s role

Before the game, Yankees manager Aaron Boone wasn’t optimistic about the forecasts.

“Just not good,” he said. “A little unpredictable. Hoping to finish the first one at least. Hoping for the best on the second. We’re just kind of waiting. I haven’t heard anything close to official yet. Just trying to get prepared as best we can, like we’re a go.”

That didn’t happen.

Here’s the forecast for the rest of the day, via the National Weather Service:

This Afternoon: Showers. Patchy fog. High near 76. East wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Tonight: Showers. Patchy fog. Low around 64. East wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

There was also a hazardous weather outlook for the area and a flood warning.

PROSPECT SPOTLIGHT
Tyler Nunez, a C from Lake Nona HS, is a 6'2 190lb athletic catcher who provides strength with the bat and glove. During BP, Tyler stuck with a middle of the field approach while staying on a line. He impacted the ball well with his compact and direct path, T90EV. He showed off his real athleticism behind the plate by posting a 2.04 pop time while staying around the bag on every throw. He is a good looking athletic uncommitted catcher to keep an eye on.
