Yankees-Red Sox weather forecast: Will rain from Hurricane Florence delay Tuesday’s game?

The New York Yankees open a three-game series Tuesday, September 18, 2018 (9/18/18) when the Boston Red Sox visit Yankee Stadium in Bronx, N.Y. The Red Sox’s magic number to clinch the American League East division title is two. The Yankees own a 1.5-game lead over the Oakland A’s in the American League Wild Card race.

The Yankees open a three-game series with the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday at Yankee Stadium. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. (an early start for the Jewish high holy day of Yom Kippur which begins at sundown). But mother nature might have something to say about that, with the remnants of Hurricane Florence passing through the area.

Here is the latest forecast from the National Weather Service:

Today: Showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. High near 83. South wind 7 to 9 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms likely before 9pm, then a slight chance of showers between 9pm and 10pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 67. North wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

The Red Sox come to town with a magic number of two to clinch their third straight American League East division title.

That means if Boston wins one game in the Bronx, the division race is officially over.

The Yankees will take the field Tuesday with a 1.5-game lead over the Oakland Athletics for the first American League Wild Card, which represents home-field advantage to begin the postseason.
