Yankees release Jacoby Ellsbury in 40-man roster shakeup

The Yankees released Jacoby Ellsbury to set their 40-man roster ahead of the 8 p.m. deadline Wednesday, the club announced. Cutting the 36-year-old Ellsbury means the Yankees will swallow the $26 million remaining on the seven-year, $153 million free-agent contract the center fielder signed prior to the 2014 season.
