BOSTON — Yankees manager Aaron Boone didn’t feel the need to play Aaron Judge on Saturday.

To Boone, the feeling alone felt like a big deal.

“Obviously with him coming back, one of the things was trying to build up his timing and his stamina, all that kind of getting him back up to speed,” Boone said before a 8-5 win over the Red Sox at Fenway Park.

“I think that I’m able to give him a day says a lot about where he’s at and how he’s doing and certainly how I feel about where he’s at from an at-bat standpoint. I think it’s a good day to get him down, as we’ve been going pretty hard with him, too.”

Judge, 26, had been working his way back into an optimal performance level following an approximately 1-1/2-month layoff recovering from a fractured right wrist. Judge suffered the injury when he was hit on the wrist with a fastball in late July.

Since returning from the DL on Sept. 14, Judge hasn’t put up numbers worth of his All-Star first half. Judge has hit .237 with one home run and six RBI in 12 games and 48 plate appearances. He’s also had a .354 on-base percentage, which suggest that maybe while his eye has been sharp, his swing has been catching up.

But Judge homered to center field in the Yankees’ win Friday night at Fenway Park.

It’s unclear whether the Yankees will play Judge in their season-finale in Boston on Sunday.
