Yankees-White Sox game in jeopardy? Heavy rains hit Chicago

Weather permitting, the Yankees and Chicago White Sox will resume their season in Chicago on Tuesday night.

CHICAGO — A day of rain in Chicago has the tarp covering the infield at very soggy Guaranteed Rate Field, where the Yankees are scheduled to continue their series against the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night.

There does appear to be a tight window to get in the game, which is scheduled to begin at 7:10 p.m., Central as weather.com’s forecast indicates no rain from 7-10 Chicago time.

By 5:15 Chicago time, the rain had slowed to a drizzle moments after a heavy downpour.

If the game gets rained out, the Yankees and White Sox would be forced to play a doubleheader on Wednesday, and it probably would be scheduled as a day-night twinbill.

The Yankees already have played three doubleheaders due to rainouts, the first of which they had to give up a day off to return to Detroit for two makeup games.

Another doubleheader is scheduled for Aug. 25 in Baltimore and that will be the Yankees’ second there this city.

Also, the Yankees will play a makeup games against the New York Mets at Yankee Stadium on Aug. 13 and they had to play a makeup against the Tampa Bay Rays the day after their home opener was postponed due to snow.

In addition, the Yankees had to make an unscheduled return trip to Washington, D.C., on June 18 to play a makeup game and finish a suspended due to multiple days of rain during their first visit to Nationals Park this season.

The Yankees had a good start to their season in Chicago, as they prevailed 7-0 on Monday night to end their season-long losing streak at five games.

Newly acquired right-hander Lance Lynn pitched a two-hitter over 7 2/3 shutout innings in his first start for the Yankees, who also got home runs from Gleyber Torres and Neil Walker.

PROSPECT SPOTLIGHT
Tyler Nunez, a C from Lake Nona HS, is a 6'2 190lb athletic catcher who provides strength with the bat and glove. During BP, Tyler stuck with a middle of the field approach while staying on a line. He impacted the ball well with his compact and direct path, T90EV. He showed off his real athleticism behind the plate by posting a 2.04 pop time while staying around the bag on every throw. He is a good looking athletic uncommitted catcher to keep an eye on.
