Yankees demote Clint Frazier | What it means

The Yankees sent Clint Frazier to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday, July 15, 2018.

CLEVELAND — Clint Frazier won’t get an All-Star break.

The Yankees sent Frazier to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre following Sunday’s 5-2 loss to the Indians at Progressive Field.

Why: Simply, Frazier needs to play everyday. He’d been up with the Yankees since July 7 and got just 17 plate appearances. When he got hit by a pitch in the ninth inning Sunday, it was his first plate appearance since Wednesday.

How can he get back? Frazier has snuck onto the Yankees’ roster when they have needed right-handed pop on their roster and when Brett Gardner‘s knee was bothering him. It’s going to take similar circumstances to return him to the major-league club.

What’s he done in the majors? Frazier has contributed in his few stints with the Yankees, hitting .265 with a .743 OPS and an RBI in 34 at-bats.

What he thinks about trade rumors: His name has floated in rumors about all kinds of trades for the third straight season. Remember, the Yankees acquired him from the Indians In 2016, and last year there was talk about the team trading him for a starting pitcher.

“I feel like I’ve done a good job in dealing with the up and down, going from the big leagues to the minor leagues, dealing with the trade rumors, dealing with my concussion,” Frazier said before the Yankees’ 6-5 loss to the Indians at Progressive Field on Friday. “I feel like I’d be putting myself in a disadvantage if I try to think too much about what’s going on. I haven’t paid much attention to it.”
