Yankees shortstop Didi Gregorius was pulled after a collision in Sunday’s game against the Blue Jays at Yankee Stadium.
NEW YORK — The Yankees pulled shortstop Didi Gregorius with an apparent injury during a game against the Blue Jays at Yankee Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Manager Aaron Boone lifted Gregorius before the start of the third inning.
The Yankees haven’t said why Gregorius was taken out.
In the first inning, Gregorius collided with Toronto first baseman Kendrys Morales. Gregorius was racing to beat out a groundball single to second base.
Gregorius was safe, but second baseman Devon Travis’ throw was short and right of the bag. Morales made a bad move in trying to scoop it while directly in line with Gregorius, who was going full speed.
Boone and team trainer Steve Donohue checked on Gregorius, who was doubled over in pain. When he stood up, he hopped a little. Gregorius stayed in the game and eventually scored on Greg Bird’s grand slam. Gregorius played the next inning in the field, too, then Boone put Gleyber Torres in his place at shortstop with Ronald Torreyes taking over for Torres at second base.
