Things got a little wild in the Bronx on Friday night as an unexpected visitor interrupted the Yankees–Red Sox matchup. For a few surreal moments, the spotlight shifted from the players to a bushy-tailed squirrel that darted right into the action. The furry intruder made its way into the batter’s box during the top of the fourth inning, bumping into Red Sox rookie Jhostynxon Garcia in what was already a memorable debut. The crowd roared as the squirrel sprinted down the third-base line and even paused on the mound for a stare-down with Yankees starter Max Fried, who clearly wasn’t amused. His very next pitch sailed to the backstop for ball four, drawing even more laughs from the fans.As play continued, the squirrel kept racing around the infield, sending Ben Rice sidestepping at first base and leaving the grounds crew unsure of what to do. Eventually, the animal found an escape route through the chain-link fencing of the right-field scoreboard, but not before leaving behind one of the most unforgettable moments of the night.Check out the wild scene from Yankee Stadium below:
