What time does Yankees’ suspended game with Nationals start today? (5/16/18)

The New York Yankees and Washington Nationals had their game suspended on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 (5/15/18) after a line of severe thunderstorms hit Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. The 2 clubs are scheduled to resume that game on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 (5/16/18) at 5:05 p.m.

The Yankees opened a two-game series with the Washington Nationals on Tuesday. The series will end on Wednesday. Whether they actually play any games remains to be seen.

Tuesday’s game was suspended after 5 1/2 innings when a line of severe thunderstorms swept through Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. At the time play was halted, the clubs were tied, 3-3.

The game is scheduled to resume Wednesday at 5:05 p.m. The regularly-scheduled game for Wednesday would start after completion of the rain-delayed game.

But don’t bet on that happening.

More rain is in the forecast for Wednesday.

If the clubs don’t play today, the games will be made up a later date, per NJ Advance Media’s Brendan Kuty:

If the teams can’t make Wednesday work, they have a mutual off day Thursday. But that’s not happening, a Yankees official said. (Manager Aaron) Boone said he was doubtful it would work that way, too.

“I think there’s hotel issues,” he said. “I think there’s all kinds of issues going on. My understanding is that if we don’t get it in, we’re going, but I’m sure those will be things they’ll work through over the next 24 hours if the weather doesn’t cooperate.”

Instead, the Yankees will travel to Kansas City for Friday’s game, and the Yankees and Nationals will pick another mutual off day to get the game-and-a-half in.

The Yankees have CC Sabathia slated to pitch the 7:05 p.m. game. But who gets the ball when the Yankees and Nationals start back up the first game? Boone said the team was still working through that, but that it will be allowed to use a 26th player for the second game. So, count on a call up, and expect it to be a pitcher.
