Supreme Court: Yankees’ Brian Cashman backs Brett Kavanaugh, Donald Trump’s pick

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman endorsed Brett Kavanaugh, President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court pick to replace retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy.

So far, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman thinks President Donald Trump is batting a thousand with his Supreme Court picks.

After endorsing Trump choice Neil Gorsuch last year, Cashman is at it again, this time backing Brett Kavanaugh.

The conservative Kavanaugh is looking to take over a spot set to be vacated by Justice Anthony Kennedy‘s abrupt impending retirement.

Mailbag: Frazier or Gardner in 2019?

Cashman signed a letter, organized by Arizona Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill, backing the 53-year-old Kavanaugh, who’s currently a federal appellate judge in the District of Columbia.

Cashman and Kavanaugh went to Georgetown Prep at about the same time in the 1980s. So, too, did Gorsuch, whom Cashman called “extremely intelligent and a high-character guy” and a “tremendous choice” in an interview with the New York Daily News.

The letter was also signed by 10 other Georgetown Prep classmates. It was released on the Cardinals’ Twitter account not long after Trump announced Kavanaugh as his choice Monday night.

“Although some may use the confirmation process as a rallying cry for advancing deeply and honestly held beliefs for many groups in our country, we earnestly ask you to rise above the passions and examine who Brett Kavanaugh is and whether his judicial ability, extensive experience and many accomplishments in public service qualify him to the position of an Associate Justice,” the letter said.

According to the Associated Press, “Kavanaugh is likely to be more conservative than Justice Kennedy on a range of social issues. At the top of that list is abortion. A more conservative majority could be more willing to uphold state restrictions on abortion, if not overturn the 45-year-old landmark Roe v. Wade decision that established a woman’s constitutional right.”
